Types of Computer Networks
Q. Type of Computer Networks.
Ans. These are types of Computer
Networks.
1.
Local Area Network (LAN)
2.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
3.
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
4.
Campus Area Network (CAN)
5.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
6.
Personal Area Network (PAN)
7.
Storage Area Network (SAN)
8.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Local Area
Network (LAN)
Computers and network devices are connected through Hub,
switches, etc. within a premise or building. They are connected with
each other through network i.e., Local Lan cable, WIFI Adaptor etc.). it calls Local
Area Network.
Examples: LAN are
networking in a home, school, library, laboratory, college, office, etc.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
Computers and network devices are connected over a large geographical distance
through a shared communication path. It is not restrained to a single location
but extends over many locations. WAN can also be defined as a group of local
area networks that communicate with each other.
Example: WAN are
networking in MNC, Offices connected with different-different locations,
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
WLAN network that acts as a local area network but
makes use of wireless network technology like Wi-Fi.
Campus Area Network (CAN)
Campus area Network is bigger than a LAN but
smaller than a WAN. This is a type of computer network which is usually used in
places like a school or college. This network covers a limited geographical
area that is, it spreads across several buildings within the campus.
Metropolitan Area
Network (MAN)
Metropolitan
area Network integrates multiple LANs within a metro city into a bigger
network. Optical fibers and Cables are the media of MAN, and it supports a
distributed application environment.
Personal Area
Network (PAN)
A personal area network (PAN) is a short-range network topology designed
for peripheral devices used by an individual. The purpose of these types of
networks is to transmit data between devices without being necessarily
connected to the internet.
Storage Area Network (SAN)
SAN is an exclusive network connecting
storage with servers. Storage devices are pooled together within the
data center, and they are shared with multiple servers for accessing data, it
connected fiber channel network connecting storage with a server through
protocols like serially attached small computer system interface (SCSI).
Virtual
Private Network (VPN):
A VPN is a type of computer network that extends a
private network across the internet and lets the user send and receive data as
if they were connected to a private network even though they are not. Through a
virtual point-to-point connection users can access a private network remotely.
